What You Will Do in the Emergency First Response Instructor Course

The Emergency First Response Instructor course includes:

•  Teaching Techniques: Learn how to present and evaluate key life-saving skills in an engaging and supportive way.
•  Course Structure & Standards: Gain a thorough understanding of the EFR curriculum, including Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid), Care for Children, and AED use.
•  Practical Scenarios: Practice delivering presentations and managing realistic emergency situations to build confidence and teaching competence.
•  Marketing & Course Management: Discover how to organize, promote, and manage EFR courses in both diving and non-diving environments.

Prerequisites

To qualify for the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you must meet the following prerequisites:

•  Be at least 18 years old.
•  Hold current EFR Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months.
•  Be a PADI Divemaster (or hold equivalent rating) if you plan to integrate EFR Instructor status with professional diving instruction.

Duration

The course typically takes 1 day to complete, depending on the dive center’s schedule and class size.

What You Will Be Able to Do Once Qualified

Upon successful completion of the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you will be qualified to:

•  Teach EFR Courses: Conduct Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid), Care for Children, and AED training.
•  Integrate EFR into PADI Courses: Deliver EFR training as part of the PADI Rescue Diver and Divemaster programs.
•  Expand Your Teaching Opportunities: Offer certified emergency response training to divers, businesses, schools, and community organizations.
•  Renew and Refresh: Conduct EFR refresher courses to maintain students’ emergency response confidence and readiness.
